ARLIS/CP is a chapter of:

Fall 2007 Meeting Minutes

University of Oklahoma
Norman, OK

September 28, 2007

The business meeting was called to order by Ellen Urton, chair, at 9:30 a.m. Ellen welcomed all Central Plains members and thanked Matt Stock for hosting the meeting. Those attending were: Susan Bobo, Susan Craig, Lois Crane, George Gottschalk, Tori Gregory, April Miller, Marilyn Russell, Matt Stock, Ellen Urton and Tom Young.

Minutes: A motion to approve the minutes for both the Spring 2007 meeting and the meeting at the Atlanta Annual Conference was made by Susan Craig and seconded by Tom Young.

Secretary/Treasurer’s report: Ellen Urton reported a total of $ 2454.90 in the chapter account as of March 30, 2007. The report was approved (Susan Craig) and seconded (Tom Young). As of March 30, 2007 the chapter had 24 members (16 who paid annual dues and 8 lifetime members).

ARLIS/NA Regional Representative’s Report: Ellen Urton reported on behalf of Amy Trendler, current Midwest Regional Representative. Amy and Ellen corresponded at length over the summer. Ellen handed out summaries of their correspondence from June 16 and September 25. Ellen also distributed copies of the Letters from the President for May 29, June 15 and August 22 which are posted on the ARLIS/NA website.

Old Business: Recommend that the following items be tabled pending further instructions from ARLIS/NA: Changing the chapter name from ARLIS/CP to ARLIS/NA – CP; revising the by-laws to exclude Article IV on Associates, and creating a policies and procedures manual for the CP Chapter.

New Business: The Nominating Committee consisting of Ellen Urton and Susan Craig reported that they were unable to secure a nominee for the position of Vice-Chair/Chair Elect. Marilyn Russell asked if there were any nominations from the floor. A new member, Tori Gregory from Oklahoma State, volunteered to run for that office. Because there was not a quorum present, an election will be held at a later date, possibly by email or at the next chapter meeting.

Next, there was a brief discussion about the benefits and drawbacks of MemberClicks from the chapter’s perspective. Susan Craig proposed that, as ARLIS/NA is no longer publishing a print version of the Member Handbook, we add a complete list of chapter officers since inception to the history section of the chapter website. Susan Craig has produced a draft with some input from Tom Young. Susan Bobo will circulate this draft to the membership for additions and corrections early next year.

ARLIS/NA headquarters is asking for feedback on their proposal to rotate the duties of the George Wittenborn Memorial Book Award Committee among the various regional chapters. Those members present who had served on this committee in the past briefly shared their experiences. The consensus was that this could be a very beneficial opportunity for the chapter. Ellen Urton will communicate to ARLIS/NA headquarters our positive response.

The Mountain West Chapter will host the ARLIS/NA Annual Conference in Denver, May 1 -5, 2008. Susan Craig moved that as a chapter we volunteer to help our colleagues in the Mountain West Chapter in hosting the event. The motion carried. Ellen Urton will contact Conference Co-Chairs for Local Arrangements Peggy Keeran and Tom Riedel with our offer of assistance.

Possible Spring/Fall 2008 meeting locations: Mari Russell announced that Kay Logan-Peters has offered to host a chapter meeting in Lincoln, NE most likely in Fall 2008. In particular, Kay noted the opening of a new facility for the International Quilt Study Center at the University of Nebraska. In keeping with the tradition of having at least one chapter meeting a year within driving distance of Kansas City, Ellen Urton promised to investigate the possibility of hosting a meeting in Manhattan, KS sometime in 2008 as well. Watch the website for more specific news.

In closing, Susan Craig proposed that the chapter express its gratitude to Ellen Urton for an outstanding job as Chair this past year, which was met with applause from the entire group.

There being no other news or announcements, the meeting was adjourned at 10:30 a.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Susan Bobo filling in for Mikael Kriz
